aug 19th day 19

Went back in time today....22 minutes back to Goldfield. Camera was fully charged and got some great shots of the silver mine town. An old fire station was open so we got to poke around there and talk to some locals. Saw the wild horses, in the distance, but they were there....
Headed west to Beaton, on to Lee Vining for lunch. Rode through Yosimite National Park, full of alpine meadow and wild flowers. Didn't see any wildlife but followed a couple "spleen removers" for a few miles. Amazingly different rock formation and forests. Exiting the park we rode down an amazing canyon, zig zagging into a little town called Groveland. On the road for an hour longer, we called it a day and are spending the night in Oakdale, California. Tomorrow it will be about an hour and a half ride to SanFransico.

This car was at the gas station in Tonopah, the chick driving it did 323mph at the Bonneville salt flats.

This guy rode up to a bike store we were in.

Apparently this hotel is haunted it made Ghost stories three times, it was actually on tv at this little gas and beer store we stopped at.

If you can guess what this is last pic is I'll buy you 5 rums at Kanes or a box of buds. Its in a mining town but has nothing to do with mining.

aug 18th flagstaff to tonopah

Linda at the chip.

Left Flagstaff early this AM after a night of thunder and heavy rain. Headed toward Williams, then on towards Vegas. Cool riding, was dressed in full leathers...at the gas station I was walking about having a drink of water when some guy getting into his car said "Wow, those are some ominous pants"... I just said "thank you", had no idea what it even meant! We just had a good laugh after we googled "ominous", don't quite know what that guy was about but he must have been from the dark side - or Utah!
Hoover Dam was an incredible mega structure, I'd post some pictures but my photo assistant failed to charge the camera batteries, so guess I'll continue on with my thousand words, Ha Ha. We rode right through Vegas, the heat was insane as was the traffic. Stopped for gas North of Vegas, met yet another guy from Sturgis! He was heading to Pasadena, was about 70 and just dropped his brother off. It was their first visit to the event and he was quite impressed! Crosswinds were nasty through the dessert, not a thing to see until we hit a little spot called Goldfield. So many neat buildings and history, gonna backtrack there tomorrow to get some pictures. It's only 30 minutes back and I'm hoping to spot the wild mustangs we saw this afternoon...if I'd only has my camera!

Had to add the girl scine I was a poor camera assistant, Linda took this one at the Full Throttle Saloon she was our bartender.

flagstaff tuesday 17th

We we were up and out the door around 8:15 weather was warm and no clouds to be seen. Met some firefigthters in Bluff Utah at a gas station. They were from Louisianna, they also suggested we travel highway 163 instead of 160, exellent choice. The highway ran through the heart of Navajo Land but Monument Valley was the coolest, what beautiful scenery. At a gas stop it was suggested that we stop at this navajo resturant and try a real Navajo Taco, well it was really good but shit it was bigger then Mom's apple pie. Again the feed you to much, getting the hint, lots of food = big people and cheap prices. Made into Flagstaff and into the Harley dealership for a new rear tire, sucker was worn out. Okay gramma not totally worn out but time for a new one.lol. Had a good visit with my sister and the boys. Weather is kinda in the crapper right now, hoping for a change in the weather in the morning.

Monday August 16th

Slept in this morning till 8:00 on the road at 9:30. We headed down the highway 191 towards Moab Utah. Everything was pretty uneventful until we entered into Ashley National Forest. It begins just outside Duchesne, it is a long valley that climbs upto a hieght of 9112 feet and then drops quickly down the other side. We ran for about a hour and a half in an out of thunderstorms with pretty nice lighting. we would get wet and then the sun and heat would dry us out and then wet all over and dry again. At the end of this beautiful valley we came around the corner and wham there it sat a coal powered generation station, beauty and the beast all in one valley. Okay it sounds a little like it was a dark and stormy night but hey it was kinda like that. From Price until about ten miles outside Moab it was pretty much desert like scenery. Ten miles and into Moab was stellar for scenery, everyone should travel this section of road. Moab is a trendy little outdoorsy town, river rafting, jeep tours, bicycle tours things like that. We ate at a great Mexican restaurant, but again they try and feed you to much, Margarita's were delicious as well.

Sat/Sunday ride

Left Worland for Cody this morning. No wind, no freaking out from the back of the bike! Rode through scenic highway Dead Indian Pass into Cooke City. Unbelievable views, sunny skies but cool riding. Had a little nap on the bike (woke up drooling on Mick's jacket) Stopped for BBQ ribs, beans & potato salad...had room for a warm brownie with fudge sauce, thought I'd spoil all my senses on the same day! Back on the road through Yellow Stone, saw my first buffalo, then a whole bunch more. They are huge, and really noisy rolling around on the ground, then shaking off and wandering across the highway. Saw a few pronghorn antelope, coyote and geysers bubbling and steaming...stunk like rotten eggs(Mick claims he never cut one). On to Teton National Park, past Jacksonhole Ski Resort, great place for a winter getaway! Spent the night in Jackson, it was a happenin' place, lots to do, great entertainment and so many places to eat...we were lucky to get a room.
1.sign says it all, also known as Dead Indian Pass
2.scenery
3-4 At the summit of Dead Indian Pass
5. says it all , north east entrance
6,7,8 and 9. in yellowstone park, buffalo were right on the edge of the road, like right on the edge.
10. Lake before Jackson Wyoming.
11. elk antlers stacked in the City of Jackson when you arrive.

Had a sleep in today, on the road at 10:00. Late lunch at roadside cafe, great food again...had to leave some fries & gravy (really tried to finish them but there's only so much room on the bike) Beautiful and warm today,. great while moving but pretty hot while stopping! The scenery changes so drastic, from flat desert into mountain switchbacks. Spotted more pronghorns and scared a good size deer on side of road. (actually, I think it scared me, Mick saw it first!) We are now off the road for another day, staying at a motel in Vernal, Utah
Thought I would throw one of a different scenery in for the boys. lol
